Hello! My name is Ginger Van Allen and I am a professional photographer, videographer and web designer from Syracuse, N.Y.
At the age of 11 I was given my first camera for Christmas, a Nikon Coolpix. Since then, I've found a love and devotion to photography. In college, I picked up a photography minor and learned not only how to make great images, but to produce images that make the viewer feel something. I started my own portrait business, Ginger Edith Photography, and have held professional positions as both a photographer and videographer.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my portfolio!
Video Projects
For my undergraduate senior thesis film, I focused on the Adirondack 46, the tallest mountains in New York State. As a 46er myself, I wanted to capture the stories of those who hold these peaks sacred. Over the course of two months, I traveled back and forth between Oswego, N.Y., and the Adirondack region to meet with fellow 46ers and to follow Kiara, one of my closest friends and an aspiring 46er.
In the summer of 2024, Kiara completed her journey. I plan to revise the film with her completion!
GSNYPENN's Gold Award Girl Scout Celebration was always my favorite event to attend. I loved hearing about the diverse projects and motivations behind each recipient’s journey. From 2022 to 2024, I created an interview series where I asked Girl Scouts about the most rewarding aspects of completing their Gold Award projects.
In 2017, I earned my Girl Scout Gold Award.
In 2017, I earned my Girl Scout Gold Award.
In Fall 2024, I scripted, filmed and edited Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Join campaign commercial. The campaign title was "See Yourself in Girl Scouts" which introduced the idea that you can do sports, arts, academics and be a Girl Scout at the same time.
Girl Scout Alexis Drozdowski was one of my favorite people I met through Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways. I was given the opportunity to interview her about her Girl Scout Gold Award project, where she increased awareness of the D/deaf community.
My favorite part of the interview was Alexis teaching the audience how to sign "Make New Friends," a traditional Girl Scout song.
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! In 2024, I asked staff at Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways to describe our Girl Scout Volunteers in one word and created this video with photos submitted by volunteers.
